Latest reports suggest that 8 out of 10 people find websites and in turn products, companies and services using this method.
There are
thousands of search engines on the Internet, 99% of these are
basically unheard of. Probably less than 1% of all available
search engines / directories really count.
In our opinion
there are just 16 search engines worth getting listed on,
however any listing of your website anywhere will always help.
But beware of FFA sites. Known as "Free For All" these
sites are Email Collectors first and search engines
second.
If you sign up to
these, you will be inundated with spam as an e-mail address is
always required. Your listing will probably only exist in FFA
Directories for a few hours as FFA sites are submitted to by
automatic means. So your site may be listed one moment and
pushed off by the barrage of submissions the next.
Search engines work on
keywords and key phrases. And each engine has a different criteria for what
is honestly and genuinely accepted - you can't just fill pages with
repetitive key phrases over and over again - not only will this make your
web design terrible, it will get you banned from the search engines as a
spammer.
Using Google, the top search engine as an example,
a visitor looking for second hand car dealers in London, will simply enter keywords
associated with the search criteria. In this case :-
"Used or second hand car dealers in
London"
